Concerns around the risks of man-made climate change have been building for years, with retreating glaciers, rising sea levels, increased instances of droughts and other extreme weather events all indications of rising global temperatures. Potential knock-on effects, such as social unrest and mass migration, further highlight the importance of the challenge.
We invest in companies that are having a direct positive impact in trying to mitigate the effects of climate change, most notably in 2018 through the production of renewable energy, or by increasing the efficiency of renewable energy being released. ∅rsted is a market-leading, Danish-based renewable energy company that strives to build a more sustainable energy future. Over the past 11 years, it has transformed from a company based on non-renewable energy sources to one based on green energy. ∅rsted has established itself as a global leader in offshore wind production, primarily engaging in the development, construction and operation of wind farms.
In its relatively rapid transformation from ‘black’ to green energy, Ørsted aims to completely phase out its use of coal by 2023, while simultaneously looking to expand further into other renewable energy technologies. The creation of green, innovative and efficient energy solutions aligns most clearly to Sustainable Development Goal 7: affordable and clean energy.
